Have You Considered a Combo Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Posted: January 6, 2012 Posted by: Short & PaulkOne of the dangers of Carbon monoxide (CO) is that it is both odorless and invisible. This poisonous gas can be given off by some of the most common appliances in your home.
Any heat producing appliance, such as your propane or gas hot water heater, produces carbon monoxide. It is best to install a detector near where you believe the most likely source would be, if a leak occurred. That way you would be able to open a nearby window in hopes of venting the CO as quickly as possible.
If you already have or are planning on installing a smoke detector, then choosing a Combo Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector makes good sense. Why not provide yourself and your family the added benefit of an early warning in case any CO is leaking into your home? Additionally, they save space and require you to only change and test the batteries on just one device instead of two.
